Never
Never answer a call from a number that is not in your phone book. When you answer, don't go on to refer to her by name when you aren't quite sure who it is. Don't ask her to stop playing around because you are now apparently certain who it is. Don't get exceedingly excited when she says just one thing that makes it all come back to you; when you finally realise who you are talking to. Never do any of these things. Otherwise you'll find yourself having to explain who Grace is.

Totally agree. This is funny. Everyone discovers how dangerous anonymous calls are all their own. My own experience was from getting setup on a conference call with some office people who wanted some answers on some work stuff. Harrowing.
The important deciding factor is the time of the call. On a weekday, during the day, an unknown caller could be someone from the office. Tricky tricky (ever been snared into a conference call? harrowing). Fortunately there is a phonebook database which is always open, waiting,..ready to go. If I get a hit, I have an idea what the guy wants and before he/she mouths 'Hello' you cut him/her short with 'sorry mister/miss name_here I am in a meeting, let me call you back in ten'.
Click.
Then there are people who call at night. This is where role playing comes into play. You inject fatigue and flu into your voice...say 'hello' ...and wait. Like you said ..never presume you know the person. At some point the caller will reveal who they are.
Unless ofcourse they call your bluff and shriek ..Oh my goodness YOU DON'T REMEMBER WHO I AM?
No coming out of that one.
